Following on from installations in their Westfield Centre Stratford and Oxford Street branches, Cooltech are pleased to announce the completion of its sixth store for the Calzedonia Group in the Kings Road, West London.
Although being smaller than the previous stores, it’s prestigious location and the resulting classic design from this successful Italian chain still offered a few challenges in installing the air conditioning. The store is consists of a ground floor sales area, with sales and fitting room facilities on a lower level. The ground floor is similar to other stores in that they had high ceilings and good void space, but the lower floor was restricted to a 80mm void which offered no room for standard ceiling units. To complicate things, the existing ceiling was to remain in position.
Our only option in the sales area was to position a wall mounted unit and use part of the rear store area for a less obtrusive ducted unit. This allowed for the changing room area to have a flush wall mounted grill to suit the design decor.
To prevent the ceiling being damaged, we ran all pipework and cables in the walls. As the project had a quick turn around time, damage to these had to be kept to a minimum too.
The ground floor sales area had the usual mixture of bespoke ducting and grilles, but it was the three weeks timescale that provided the main challenges as all trades had to work together closely to ensure a smooth running project. We had staircases removed, no access during floor laying and of course the restrictions of working on a very busy Kings Road.

Ground Floor
- In void ducted fan coil units installed.
- Bespoke ducting and grilles manufactured in the clients chosen colour.
- Door air curtain installed.
Lower Ground Floor
- Wall mounted and ducted fan coil units installed.
- Alterations to the extract system.
